Hi everyone. I did find all the original Dragonlance AD&D modules &
have started taking a party through the entire campaign from beginning
to end, using the updated v3.5 rules. I am trying to stay as faithful
as possible to the original modules, but have been using Cam Banks'
conversions for DL1 & DL2 as an update for the v3.5 stats.
The first couple of modules were fairly straightforward, but I'm
increasingly finding that as we get deeper into the saga, I'm finding
it more & more difficult to stay "true" to the v3.5 rules: say the
PC's are becoming more powerful under v3.5 rules, but I don't have stat
blocks for Crystal Dragons, or Demiliches or whatever, & the PC's would
be far too powerful compared to the old AD&D stats for these monsters.
I know some people mentioned previously that this would be an issue.
It's really only a problem if you don't faithfully convert everything
else to v3.5 as well, to keep the balance. I found Cam Banks'
conversions wonderful, but unfortunately they were only done for DL1 &
DL2 (that I have found, anyway). Can anyone suggest a reference that
updates the original AD&D DL1-14 modules to v3.5 rules, or at least
includes stat blocks for every encounter you would find in the
campaign, without having to buy every v3.5 sourcebook (Monster Manual
2, 3, 4 etc) or every Dragonlance reference guide - this has already
been a several hundred dollar project with shipping!! At this stage,
we are fairly happy following the original modules so probably don't
need much in the way of info for running our "own" campaign in the DL
world - mainly just a guide for the original modules. Ideally there
would be conversions for the other modules like DL1 & DL2 but I don't
think they exist!!! The conversions also gave useful bits & pieces
along the way like "the players really shouldn't attempt to fight XYZ
creature", "if this happens the encounter should be treated as an EL4
rather than EL9" etc - that sort of stuff is always useful as well.
Thanx all
Oz
