That would be my recommendation, particularly if nostalgia is a factor.

Yes, it is a "remake"/"reimagining" of the modules and not recommended
for what you are after. I slashes a lot of dungeon crawling and adds a
lot more "storytelling".

In most cases they are workable. From what I remember, most
reproductions were quite good with the exception of the maps from DL6
and DL12. You may be referring to a reprint done of the original
modules some years ago in a tiny (and I mean tiny) format.

It does have useful information about several unique races such as
draconians, fireshadow etc., and may also be useful when it comes to
powers for clerics of specific gods.

DL1 and DL2 have been converted by Cam Banks (fan who later went on to
write official DL game products) into 3e stats.

There is also a new remake, with the first, covering DL1-4 soon to
be/recently published. I have no idea how different or similar it is to
the original modules, though, since I haven't seen it yet.

But the bottom line is: Get the original modules. I still love'em. :)
