Original Dragonlance AD&D modules

by "Ossie1972" <ossie1972np@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 30, 2006 at 02:56 AM

Hi everyone, newbie & first time poster. I am keen to run thorugh the
original AD&D DL campaign modules, updated to the new v3.5 rules, & was
looking for advice on what I should get. I'm primarily interested in
the original campaign modules themselves, DL1-DL14. The obvious option
of collecting all the old modules still seems possible with enough time
& patience. I'm a bit uncertain however about the "collections" that
now seem available. From what I can gather, the 15th Anniversary
Collectors Edition is *NOT* a faithful beginning-to-end reproduction of
the original modules, more an overview of the entire DL story/campaign
world with various additional goodies, & perhaps sections of the old
modules here & there. Is this true? The original modules do seem to
be also available in the 3-volume DLC Classics series, but I have heard
that the reprints are scaled-down & quite small, nowhere near as good
as the original modules. Is that also true?

I am a reasonably experienced rpg/D&D player & have all the old AD&D as
well as 3.5 sourcebooks, so I'm confident that I can "scale" the
original AD&D stats etc into a v3.5 setting. My plan is to run the
campaign from the original DL modules beginning-to-end, for a bit of
nostalgia, rather than run my own campaign in the DL world. As such, I
expect all I really need are the original modules. But is there any
newer material that you would consider a must-have for such a job?
(such as an overall sourcebook like Dragonlance Campaign Setting) Or
would that really just contain a lot of side information (like unique
races of Krynn, other eras etc) that you aren't really going to need if
you're not adding anything much from your own campaign? Is my
understanding of the "collections" above accurate? Are there any other
(quality) "compilations" of the entire original AD&D modules that I
haven't mentioned? It seems at some point in the past that the
original modules were listed as free downloads from this site
http://ulmo.mux.net/dragonlance/
but it appears they are no longer
available. I guess the ultimate would be a newly released series of
the original modules, completely rewritten & updated to v3.5 rules, but
I'm guessing that's a bit hopeful ;)

Sorry for the essay, but if anyone has any information or useful advice
on any or all of my questions I would really appreciate it. Thanks all
in advance.

Oz
