Hey, guys--
I was hoping the recent LEGENDS OF THE TWINS hardcover would expand on
the intriguing pp. 102-106 of DLA, thus continuing the great
gazetteer-like quality of WAR OF THE LANCE. So far I have the latter but
not the former. Does LotT only really focus on other time periods and
alternate timelines?

I agree it's a great period, but it's in danger of one particular major
pitfall, I think. Even in Legends this time period is shown as being one
of international prosperity and commerce, which is odd. Krynn should NOT
be happy-generic-fantasy-land. In the original products there is a VERY
gritty feel as the aftereffects of the Cataclysm loom large. Goblins and
such are everywhere, folk are living in trees for fear, Humans and Elves
are at each others' throats, steel is the common currency. Everywhere is
poverty and starvation, ruins and "darken woods", and dark and strange
cults.
Granted that the gods are returned in post-WotL, so do dragons. It's
strange that it's ****trayed as if the war brought prosperity and a new
peak of civilization to everyone! Especially since, even after the fall
of Neraka, the five Dragonarmies, the Minotaurs, and the Knights of
Solamnia are still constantly fighting for ground.
Post-WotL should still be characterized by the horrors of the Cataclysm
and the WotL looming large. Of course, this should be tempered by a
"heroic" feel as the heroes through their cleverness and virtue can
succeed in making major changes. It's still not as if there are giant
unkillable mega-dragons or anything. Regards.
