Not a lot of concrete information on the Silvanesti migration, as none
of the "major" players were present for it. What we do have, at least
from what I recall, are a couple snippets and three mild inferences
based on other, unrelated information that we have.
Time of the Dragon - The Silvanaes apparently came to Taladas having
been driven off-course during their migration during the War of the
Lance. This snippet is a hard one to hold onto, as the Silvanaes are
also implied to have been in Taladas for a while (pu****ng the whole
timeframe of Time of the Dragon) later then would seem likely given the
overall setting.
Source Not Known - I recall a reference or two to the minotaur opposing
the Silvanesti on the seas during their migration. This would
correspond to a sea voyage around the north of the continent.
Unfortunately, I do not remember where all I might have read that.
Inference #1 - It seems highly unlikely that that many Silvanesti
traveled overland between Silvanesti and Newsea without someone taking
note (particularly the Dragonarmies whose lines the Silvanesti would
have to somehow pass through). Granted, it is possible to have hidden
them through some form of very powerful magical concealment, but that
is a large population and the logistics of that migration alone would
have cost them dearly. It seems improbable that they would choose such
a risky option when other, easier, and more secretive options existed.
Inference #2 - Even if the entire nation made the journey from
Silvanesti to Newsea undetected, how would they have actually taken
****p from the shores of Newsea to Ergoth. They had no ****ts, and all
the ****ts in that vicinity had either been conquered by the
Dragonarmies, were loyal to the Dragonarmies, or were likely shaking in
their boots wanting to not be made the next target of the Dragonarmies.
We're talking about a tremendous number of ****ps and supplies to move
that many people overseas, ****ps and supplies that would have somehow
had to been acquired by the Silvanesti from someone else. At a
minimum, that would have been noticed. This is even a consideration if
the Silvanesti had somehow crossed the entire continent overland.
Inference #3 - Silvanesti does have sea ****ts and, despite a great deal
of xenophobia, it was said to have at least a decent maritime tradition
with trading ****ps and such. Though it's somewhat difficult to embrace
the idea that they could have enough ****pping on hand for a migration
of such profound scope which would likely last a few weeks, including
all the food, water, and supplies that would entail, the realism
required to sup****t those logistics is less difficult then the overland
journey.
One of the things about this topic that has always tweaked my logic
circuits is "why Southern Ergoth?". In a post-Cataclysmic world in
which the Silvanesti allegedly didn't have much contact with the rest
of the world, it seems a rather odd choice, at least when compared with
other, closer possibilities. The only explanation that readily pops to
mind is that Lorac might have felt the Dragonarmies would have hunted
for them in all the closer possible locations first.
