I pretty much asked this same question on the dragonlance Forums.
Honestly, to me, it's a moot issue among fans at this point. With the
new Legends of the Twins SP sourcebook, they presented a wide range of
alternate realities and alternate timelines for players to play in.
All fans need to do is go about their alternate timeline.
So, Kaithan, you can "reset" the whole setting, by branching off into a
krynn that would suit you better. so, if you present the proper game
material to fans, Hell, if you flood the internet with more game
material than SP and fan-fiction, then perhaps the popularity of your
version of dragonlance will win out and you'll get your 5th age retcon.

Personally, I'd take the names of people I who i think don't deserve to
be dragonlance fans, tell authors to use these names for their
villians, and have them killed off in a storyline.
