Actually, I see 263.1 plys ahead, on average.
In this position, I saw a mate-in-fifty-seven
moves, but decided that would just be too
easy, and instead went for "complications",
so that the game could drag on for a week.

In one of my recent over-the-board games,
I made a double Rook sacrifice which was
*supposed* to net the opponent's Queen,
two pawns, and an ongoing attack on the
mass of weak central pawns. Instead, when
the smoke had cleared, I found myself down
a Rook for only two pawns, in a relatively
simple endgame. Undaunted, I fought on,
but for some reason (the missing Rook) the
tactics always favored him. The funny thing
was, I did not realize I was down a Rook at
first, but only after I noticed that things
were not going well... .
